When Microsoft released their Windows Vista operating system it was supposed to be their next great version of Windows. Unfortunately, Windows users and critics did not agree with Microsoft, and Vista may be one of the biggest failures that the company ever had when it comes to the their PC operating systems. Windows quickly re-grouped and began work on Windows 7, which would answer all of the complaints and bugs that Vista users were quick to point out. So now that Windows 7 is available, how does it compare to past versions of Windows? Well one thing is for sure, it cannot be worse then Vista.
Before the official launch of Windows 7, Microsoft did a test with a sample set of users to make sure they were not going to receive the same negative backlash they received with Vista. The users were comprised of individuals who used Windows for personal use only (61% of the testers), individuals who used Windows both personally and professionally (25 % of the testers) and individuals who used Windows strictly professionally (14% of the testers). The individuals who were tested also represented users who were installing Windows 7 on a PC that already had Vista, and users where Windows 7 was the only operating system ever installed on that PC.
The testing went very well, with very few issues reported, and little difficulty with the installation of the Windows 7 operating system. The issues that were encountered were issues that could arise from the installation of any operating system, such as existing software on the PC that is incompatible with Windows 7, or drivers for certain hardware devices that were incompatible with Windows 7. In these case a patch from the manufacturer of the software or hardware device and probably eliminate the issues altogether. There was a small number of users that ended up having their computers crash during the installation process, but this is also inevitable when installing an operating system, and should not dissuade anyone from upgrading to Windows 7 if they want to.
After the installation portion of the testing, the users then began to use the Windows 7 operating system, and were able to see the vast improvements that Microsoft made when compared to Windows Vista. The test results were overwhelmingly supportive of Windows 7. When the test scores were compiled, only 5% of the testers said they were unsatisfied with Windows 7, compared to almost half of the testers for Vista who were unsatisfied. Clearly Windows 7 is a significant improvement to Vista.
It looks as if Microsoft has finally made a superior operating system with the release of Windows 7 and as long as they continue to update and manage the problems that arise, there should be no reason why people should not switch over with fabulous results. And Vista users especially will notice right away the superior performance of Windows 7 over their current Vista program. What a difference!
